Alexandre Rangel // liquid-politics

A remix of Brazilian presidents’ inaugural speeches, programmed in Sema’s experimental default language.

Alexandre Rangel (PhD) is a Brazilian new media artist working with video art, music and audiovisual software development. His works explore the relations between the main themes of his imagetic poetry: human kind, religiosity and urban society. He portrays the relations with technology as motifs of higher rationale and agnostic wonder.
As the name suggests, we are facing an heir of the Brazilian art vanguards of the sixties, such as Hélio Oiticica and Lygia Clark. – Patricia Moran, Itaú Arts and Technology Encyclopaedia
Alexandre Rangel is a creator squared: developed the main tool of his artistic activity – an ingenious software for manipulating video in real-time that is being used by VJs worldwide. Alexandre gave the program the name “Quase-Cinema”, in homage to Hélio Oiticica, who used the term to mean “a field of transgressive experiences within the realm of media or images and sounds produced technically. – Gilberto Gil
