Metacosm – HELOpg

Built using the HELOpg SLIME System, the Metacosm interactive laptop network sound system is an installation, live performance, hackathon event where more laptops than performers share data and audio signals (via even more wires).  As performers move between laptops they create a collaborative evolving soundscape.  Audience are invited to move around the installation, to listen and look in from different angles, to ask questions and even to connect to the network where the opportunity is presented.

HELOpg (the Huddersfield Experimental Laptop Orchestra postgraduate group), established since October 2009, is a laptop ensemble based within the music department at University of Huddersfield. Interested in exploring the use of the laptop as a performance tool, HELOpg performs, records and tours experimental laptop composition and improvisation with a diverse mix individually created instruments. HELOpg currently consist of Samuel Birkhead, Julian Brooks, Sam Freeman, Scott Hewitt and Adam Jansch.
