Saturday 18th July 1600-1800 (GMT+1)
Sounding Spaces is a musical-spiritual-communal event focusing on yogic and meditative approaches to creative processes. It navigates between the performative arena, learning environment, and a collaborative creation. Researching the entire sensory experience, we will focus on sound while also exploring the different facets of perception and its key role in creativity.
This special gathering—redefining space and connectivity—will create a micro instance of community, where everyone is welcome to take part. In an exploration of embodied perception and creativity, we will sing, meditate and breathe together. We will explore listening and sound—experimenting with the many aspects of sonic perception. Participants are welcome to join the event with or without musical instruments.
Sounding Spaces will assume the form of a performative learning experience. Participants are guided through some light physical exercises designed to facilitate a deeper sense of bodily presence, as well as the experience of one’s perceptive field. We will then explore the different properties of sound and learn to identify them by listening. This segment will be complemented by visual and auditory demonstrations of different waveforms and utilizing various scopes for their exhibition.
We will then move on to experiment with the deconstruction of language—examining how syllables and other bodily sounds produce waveforms similar to the ones previously explored. These new skills will serve the group as the event evolves into a musical composition: an improvised co-creation through ongoing research into different sound qualities and their manifestations in the sensory field. Participants will learn to listen as they create; perceive themselves listening; and create as they perceive.
Throughout the experience, a live soundscape is generated to accompany the process by creating a synchronous Live Coding performance with the music.
Music is one of the most powerful gateways to connect to our spiritual nature, to the universe around us, and to our fellow humans. Music cultivates community. Music facilitates healing. Through the various new possibilities in the digital era, we are offered a great opportunity to find new paths of connecting in a greater global consciousness.
We are truly excited to facilitate this special gathering of individuals from all around the globe—linked through digital media—but sharing a common creative space of intimacy and connection.
10 max. participants
Info for participants: to fully enjoy the experience, wear comfortable clothes, fit for meditation – and have a set of headphones (preferably non in-ear) and / or good loudspeakers.
